How to Build a Personal Brand – it’s not what you think…

Do you know how to build your personal brand?

When I first started, the LAST thing I wanted to do was be the face of my brand. I’m a very private person and I struggled a LOT with putting my face and stories out into the world. In fact, I did everything possible to avoid merging business and personal. I also felt like I didn’t have the “right look” for my business.

In this solo episode, I’m sharing why I changed my mind and what I would do differently if I were building a personal brand from scratch today. This is an honest conversation on mistakes, insecurities and all the fears that stop us from showing up.

How to Build a Personal Brand: A Real-Life Journey to Authenticity and Influence

Have you ever wondered why certain names stick in our minds when we think about specific industries or problems? It’s not just about the work they do—it’s about the personal brand they’ve built. But how do you build a personal brand that stands out in this bustling digital bazaar we call the internet? Let’s explore together…

What is a personal brand, and why should you even care? Think of it as your professional fingerprint—distinctive, uniquely yours, and visible in everything you do. It’s what people say about you when you’re not in the room. It’s your reputation, crafted and honed over time. “It’s your unique identity, your strengths, your passions, your expertise,” one podcast host shared. And it’s true—the power of personal branding lies in its ability to give you more visibility, enhance your marketability, and foster profound customer loyalty.

Now, you might think, “But I’m not a naturally born spotlight lover!” Neither was our I. You might have concerns about stepping into the brand spotlight. But personal branding isn’t just for the extroverted—it’s for anyone with a story to tell and a passion to share, even if that sharing starts off camera.

The Core of Personal Branding: Identifying What Matters

How to build a personal brand starts with the conversations you wish to be part of. What lights your fire? Which issues make you stand taller, speak louder, and inspire action? Conversely, knowing what you don’t want to be a part of is equally important. By identifying these conversations, you create a brand that aligns with your deepest values and draws the right people to your side.

Because your personal brand is your story. What chapters do you share to draw others into your narrative? Storytelling is the heart of a personal brand. It’s the shared experiences, the pivotal moments, and the insights gained along the way that resonate with others.

Next Steps in Building Your Personal Brand

Now that you’re inspired, what’s next? How do you build a personal brand from where you stand? Start with small, intentional steps. Craft your message, share your story, reach out for collaborations, and let your visual identity naturally emerge from the genuine essence of who you are.

Also, one of the most exciting parts of how to build a personal brand is not doing it alone. Collaborations and community engagement are your allies. They expand your reach and connect you with others who can amplify your voice. As I mention in this episode “Collaborate. Find people who have a feel and look. They are not your competitors. They are the ones to push you forward.”
